There are trillions of cells in the human body, and protein can be found in every one…did you know that approximately 20% of the body is protein…its true!
There is a misconception that plant based protein is much easier to digest than animal protein…this is not so. Animal protein is much closer in formulation to our body’s protein, so digestion is a bit better.
You hear the term “gluten free” at restaurants and at the dinner table, and we see it on food labels and television commercials, so what is Gluten? It is actually a protein?
Gluten can trigger an allergic response in many people, or can cause stomach and digestion concerns.
Did you know the body contains hundreds of different proteins…all with specific duties in our bodies.
You often hear that protein and its amino acids, are the building blocks of the body…this is very true, and very important to know. It allows the body to build and maintain muscle and contributes to size, shape, function and strength of the muscle. It also helps the body recover and heal itself. As we age, it is very important to keep our protein levels up because as I said, protein builds muscle, muscle adds strength, and strength adds to our body’s balance and stability.
A majority of patients that I and Dr. Michael P. Lange see are not consuming the amount of protein they require, not even a minimal amount. They all think they are consuming all the protein they need… and of course we hear the “age reason/excuse” but really it’s not age related, it a change in lifestyle , and really a simple fix. I hear, “I don’t eat breakfast anymore”… my answer to that is, enjoy a high protein shake for breakfast, your body will thank you for it in so many ways.
Did you know that protein can help you lose weight…it can! When you consume protein you feel fuller and more satisfied, so you tend not to eat as many calories. If you replace some of the carbohydrates during mealtime (potatoes, rice, bread, etc) with protein ( beef, chicken, fish, etc?) it will result in weight loss, and a healthier body.
Did you know that a positive protein intake is a real plus for bone health…it is! The latest research show that protein will help maintain bone mass, and it can eve reduce the risk of osteoporosis.
New research shows that additional protein can even reduce high blood pressure, and lower the bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides…its true!
For many years (and it continues now), there was a falsehood that said eating protein can cause kidney damage…let’s look into this. While it’s very true that people with kidney issues or disease need to be under doctors care and advice concerning their needs, the general population needs and requires protein for all of the reasons we have been discussing. Of course if you have kidney issues, you need to know the path to follow.
All proteins are created equal…not so. I ask you to please look at the label of your protein powder…most have a long list of ingredients, many cause a rush to the definition search app on our computers to find out just what this ingredient is and it’s purpose. Compare it with the label on Fortifeye Performance Nutrition label, and many of you will be shocked to see (we’ll be pleased with happy to see) that our grass fed, Whey Protein Isolate has only two ingredients…yes, only two! The main ingredient is the Protein Isolate of course and the other is sunflower lecithin (not soy lecithin). You will see that it is also antibiobic free, Gluten free, soy free, and does not contain artificial sweeteners, flavor or colors, with 20 grams of protein but only 90 calories and less than one gram of fat. I have nicknamed this ” our lean, mean protein” You will see a complete list of amino acids, (those building blocks I spoke about earlier) so no need to purchase additional amino acids. 60 servings of our Whey Protein Isolate is less than $60.
I begin my day with a scoop of this protein with a scoop of Fortifeye SuperFood, mixed into A2 milk, or sometimes, just spring water, and out the door I go.
Wishing you good health and a long life….
